Celebrate APAHM month with art + the written word.

Join us for a special evening of Inclusive Storytelling + Art-Making.
We're excited to bring you Chapter One, a unique three-course evening at The Creative Cafe to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM) through art and the written word. Chapter One was designed in tandem with Krystie Yen, creativity coach and founder of Slant’d, a nonprofit independent publishing house empowering AAPI creatives in pursuit of their wildest dreams.

Discover the magic of creative interpretation when you immerse yourself in reading then flow into drawing, painting, or collage. Books by AAPI authors and art supplies will be served to you, alongside beverages from AAPI-founded brands. First dates, friend dates, and solo dates are encouraged! COURSES
All guests will enjoy a three-course evening that inspires creativity and connection.

COURSE ONE | Connection (Blind Date with a Book)
Upon arrival, guests will select a pre-wrapped book by an AAPI author.

COURSE TWO | Inhalation (Reading Party)
Everyone in the room will immerse themselves in the pages of their new books for a few moments of mellow reading.

COURSE THREE | Exhalation (Art-Making)
All guests will be served their pre-selected creative activity and will relax into an evening of creative play, inspired by the words they just read. This is a special moment to freely create in community, without judgment or expectation.

MENU OF CREATIVE ACTIVITIES
All guests will select from the options below when making their reservation.

DRAWING EXPLORATION
An assortment of colored pencils and pens are brought to your table for you to explore atop archival fine-art paper. Let go of judgment and connect with your inner-child through drawing and sketching.

WATERCOLOR PLAY
Six highly-pigmented liquid watercolor hues are served for you to delve into with three brushes of varying sizes and shapes, atop archival fine-art paper. Explore what happens when you adjust the opacity with water, create washes atop your paper, and play with the different edges of your brush.

COLLAGE CURATION
Your own unique kit of magazine/book clippings, colored prints, scissors, and glue are brought to your table along with archival fine-art paper. Use the materials to visualize your internal world or aspirations. We refer to this activity as the conversation-starter.

POLICIES
PLEASE NOTE
By purchasing a ticket to Chapter One, you will be added to the Laina Miller Studio and Create with Krystie / Slant’d mailing lists.

CANCELLATION + REFUNDS
We‘re unable to offer full or partial refunds for this event. Reservations are non-transferrable.

CHILDREN + ANIMALS
This is an evening for adults only. We LOVE kids (we have kids of our own!), but this event has been designed as an opportunity for grown-ups to expand their innate creativity and de-stress in a kid-free environment. We are only able to allow service animals inside The Café at this time.

LARGE PARTIES
Tables of five or more will be charged a 20% gratuity on the day of your reservation. Due to capacity reasons, this fee will be charged regardless of how many people show up on the day. This policy also applies to reservations booked separately who request to sit together and result in a table of five or more.

STUDIO NOTE
As with all evenings at The Creative Café, this is not a instructional class. The intention of all workshops and events hosted by LAINA MILLER studio is to provide a space for you and friends to destress and find joy through the act of art-making.

Thanks for your understanding!
